Fun Day Friday, Halloween and Other Melb Events

Well, after 5pm it is Fun Day Friday!  I've had a pretty big week at work (especially the last half), so apart from a couple (or more) wines, here are some things that I might get up to this weekend.

Bring it on!

Halloween festivities

Happy Halloween!  Although we don't do a huge Halloween in Australia, I'm definitely noticing more pumpkins and costumes around.  I'm actually curious to see if we get any trick-or-treaters tonight - we haven't in the past.  But we are also loners and don't talk to our neighbours much.  So maybe it's just us.

We will be settling in on the couch for a scary movie (any suggestions??), and probably that glass of wine.  If you want to be a bit more actively involved in Halloween, you can take a tour of the Phantoms of the Theatre Ghost Tour at the Arts Centre Melbourne every half hour from 10:30pm until midnight, to hear about the theatre's hauntings, supernaturals and deadly incidents, and see the hidden tunnels and passageways.  Sounds spooky!

Melbourne Cup Carnival Week

Melbourne Spring Racing is a BIG DEAL around the city, and the country in general.  I blame the fact that I don't generally show appropriate enthusiasm for the racing events on being brought up in country Victoria.  Or maybe it's just me.  But, if it is your thing, Derby Day kicks of the Melbourne Cup Carnival Week on Saturday.  You could go to the event itself, or just settle in at a local pub for the afternoon and watch it on tv.  There are sure to be some racing inspired events near you all weekend and into the coming week.

I am very willing to get on board for the public holiday on Tuesday, thanks!

Veg Out St Kilda Farmers Market

Instead of your standard grocery run this weekend, why don't you stock up on local and regional produce at the Veg Out St Kilda Farmers Market this Saturday morning.  You will also find eggs and other meats, organic and sourdough breads, berries, juices, cheeses, sauces, chutneys, jams, pates, wine and honey and much more.

Melbourne Good Food Month

Do you need an excuse to get out and try some new cafes or restaurants?  Well here it is - November is Good Food Month, and Melbourne always brings the goods.  If you have a hankering for a particular meal, a cuisine, or even drinks, you will find a place around Melbourne that has an offer or menu specifically for Good Food Month.  You can even do a search by location to find somewhere near you.

If you want to get out of the city, you could head to Geelong for the Toast of the Coast, which includes an open pass to wineries in the area for wine tasting, food and music.  It runs all weekend from 10am to 5pm.  Don't forget to be nice to your designated driver!

You're welcome!  Have a great weekend :)

Do you celebrate Halloween or get trick-or-treaters in your area?  Which scary movie should we watch? What's your favourite wine?
