Introducing Real Girl Running

Hi!

Welcome to the first post on my blog.  I'm Alisha, and I'll be your host for today :)

Just to lay it all out there up front, my goals for this blog are to:

  • Share my day to day adventures of living a healthy life, full of running and real food
  • Be honest!  I'm not perfect, and I think it's important that we all know there are other real people (girls!) out there who are going through the same things that we might be facing
  • Have some fun!  I really enjoy thinking and sharing all things healthy living, and I hope I can also share my enthusiasm with you all

My story in a nutshell ...

I was a normal, fairly ambitious 30-ish girl.  I worked at a large professional services firm, where long hours and lots of stress became the norm.  My health took back seat, and I used food as a way of comforting myself when things got tough - which was a lot!

I got to a point where I realised I couldn't continue to neglect my body, my health, and my relationships for the sake of my job.  Which, by the way, I mostly enjoyed and found rewarding.  But not quite enough.

So about two years ago I resigned from my job and ... sat on the couch for a few months.  Honestly, I think I was burnt out and needed to restore and re-centre myself.

Then after awhile, I found a new job, and committed to living life as a new Alisha.  I started walking and slowly exercising again.  I started eating a weekly, home delivered meal plan (Lite'n'Easy), and I took the opportunity of easing into a job to find a new energy, and a new life.  My husband (then boyfriend) was there beside me all the way, encouraging me to keep moving forward.

We've had a few hiccups along the way, which I'm sure will be disclosed at some point, but essentially, I've found running to bring me peace, motivation and fulfilment, and a strong interest in looking after my body by eating real food.  I've found a new passion for life, and feel (and act) years younger.  I love my new life with my husband, Gareth, and spoilt pup, Angus.

I hope you enjoy the ride!
