Bring On a Weekend of Food and Running

Happy Friday!  Did you walk to work today?  I actually walked to the train station yesterday morning instead of today, because it suited my schedule better.  We've got to be able to be flexible, right?

I love writing my weekly Friday post, because it gets me excited about the weekend!  If having a couple of days away from work isn't enough to get you excited, here are some running and foodie events going on nearby this weekend that might make you do a little happy dance.

1. City 2 Sea

If you feel like getting active this weekend, you can run in the the City 2 Sea 15km or 5km races.  The races kick off from about 8am from the Melbourne CBD (but be careful - each distance has a different start point), and finish in St Kilda.  You can even have a bit of a sleep in with that start time! For this event, fundraisers can choose the charity their donations go to.

If you want to, you could also just check out the Race Expo - and maybe get talked into a last minute registration! - at Docklands on Friday and Saturday.   I love a good Race Expo!  Good luck to all the runners this weekend.

2. Eureka Climb

If you're feeling a bit more hardcore, you could decide that Sunday morning is a great time to run up the stairs in the Eureka Tower.  That's climbing 1642 steps to the Level 88 observation deck known as Eureka Skydeck, the highest observation deck in the Southern Hemisphere. The fastest times are crazy - for guys the record is 7min 34sec, and for girls 10min 28sec.   You may not do it that fast, but it certainly will get your heart pumping on a Sunday morning!

Fundraising is split between Interplast, that supports teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to empower our neighbouring developing countries, and Whitelion, which provides assistance to young vulnerable people through employment, mentoring, indigenous and youth programs.

Are you ready and willing to feel the burn in your quads? :)

3. Melbourne Color Run

If you feel like checking out an event that is a bit more focused on running for fun, the Melbourne Color Run will be held at Flemington Racecourse on Sunday morning.  If you're unfamiliar with a color run, basically you wear white (old clothes are probably best!), and as you run through the 5km course you pass four colour zones where you get blasted with 100% natural, food dyed, food grade cornstarch (perfectly safe) in vibrant colours.  By the end, you'll be a walking rainbow!  Just FYI - there's a Cleaning Zone at the end before you jump in your car.  Enjoy bringing some colour to your life!

4. Night Noodle Markets

If you aren't in the mood for an active weekend, and relaxing and eating sounds more your style, another feature of Good Food Month (can you tell I'm a bit obsessed!) are the Night Noodle Markets held in Birrarung Marr in the CBD.  After 5pm every day from today until the end of November, you will find more than 50 food stalls and trucks bringing you Asian cuisine of every type you can think of.  It's free entry - and you just have to pay for your food.  As we are starting to get a few warm evenings, it might be great to have a stroll through the area and start the drooling.

5. Taste of Melbourne

(Source)
Just in case you want even more amazing food, the Taste of Melbourne festival is being held in Albert Park all through the weekend. Many of the city's amazing restaurants will each fashion together 3-4 exquisite signature dishes in ‘taste’ sized portions, allowing you to create your dream tasting menu.  You buy a ticket to either a lunch or dinner tasting session (tickets are about $25 for general entry, and the sessions last for 4-5 hours), and then you purchase your food and drinks by using a Crown card, which basically acts like a debit card because you choose how much money you want to put on the card when you enter.  It's a great way to try food from some of the best restaurants in Melbourne without breaking the bank.

Well that is one packed weekend of running and eating - sounds pretty much perfect to me!  Have a good one :)

What would your perfect weekend involve?
