The Last Weekend Before Christmas! How Did That Happen??

I can't believe it's the last weekend before Christmas.  We are pretty excited because Gareth's mum is coming from Northern Ireland to stay with us for the summer.  It's going to be great!  Let's just hope Melbourne weather does us proud while she's here :)

Have you finished your Christmas shopping yet?  I have (I think!), and I might even think about doing some Christmas baking over the next few days.

If your tree has a pile of presents underneath, here are some things around Melbourne you might want to check out with your spare time - because there is so much of that at this time of year :P

Made In Melbourne Boutique Fashion Market

Maybe it's time to think about picking up some new clothes for the summer fun season.  Is that a good enough excuse to check out the Made in Melbourne Boutique Fashion Market being held at the Queen Victoria Market on Sunday?  Local designers will be showcasing clothing, jewellery, bags, accessories, designer fabrics and much much more, designed or made in Melbourne.  For a unique gift for that difficult to by for person, or just something fun for you, have a look!

Santa's Magical Kingdom

If you and your family want to get into the Christmas spirit a few days early, you could visit Santa's Magical Kingdom over the weekend at Caulfield Racecourse.  This event is a 3 hour interactive walk-through adventure land including everything that you love about Christmas, plus an International Spectacular Christmas Show. You can build your Lego Christmas at the Lego Build Zone, practice your gingerbread decorating skills, not to mention go on rides and meet your favourite friends of Santa.  Sounds like a great way to get into Christmas in a big way!

A Day on the Green - Jimmy Barnes and the Living End

This is probably an event for the lovers of Aussie rock, but if you feel like getting out of the city for the day, Jimmy Barnes and the Living End are playing a Day on the Green at Rochford Wines in Coldstream.

I've always wanted to go to A Day on the Green - from what I know, you lounge on the grass at an amazing winery and have great musical artists play you music for the afternoon.  On a beautiful summer's day, I can't think of anything much more enjoyable!  Well, except to have your family and friends with you :)

Duncan's Run Hundred

The Duncan's Run Hundred ultra event just caught my eye when I was having a look at what is on this weekend.  I'm not sure I'll be able to get out to the Grand Strzelecki Track in Tarra Bulga, Gippsland, but I'm full of admiration for people who tackle an ultra!  There are 28km, 50km and 100km races, which will take up to 24 hours.  Wow!  If you happen to be down that area of Victoria, maybe give the ultrarunners a wave and a cheer.

Melbourne Teams put on a Show

If you're in the mood for summer sports, you could check out the local A League derby between Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory, on Saturday night at AAMI Park.  Pick a side to cheer for!  For a change of sport, you could also check out the cricket T20 Big Bash League at MCG, where the Melbourne Stars take on the Hobart Hurricanes from 5:30pm.  We do love our summer sport here in Aus!

What will you get up to this last weekend before Christmas?  Mad rush, or are you planning on having some fun?  What would you choose - football or cricket?
