This Weekend: Melbourne in December

Does anyone have a big TGIF feeling today?  Just me?

This weekend I will be doing some pre-wedding running around, including getting my hair done, getting Angus groomed, going on a mystery date (with my husband ... just in case you were wondering), as well as Christmas shopping and some normal weekend jobs!  It's going to be a busy one for us, but if you have some time, here are some things you could check out.

Australian Tattoo and Body Art Expo

I know, not my usual suggestion, but I have a small unexplored interest in tattoos.  I'm intrigued by the thought of picking a design that you want on your body for the rest of your life.  I actually mull over this (potential) dilemma now and then.  And of course, there is also the question of where on your body you would want it.

If you've ever watched NY Ink or America's Worst Tattoos, you will probably recognise Megan Massacre who will be attending as a special VIP guest at the Expo held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in Southbank.  There will be tattoo demonstrations, entertainment, displays and stalls, as well as competitions across various categories including: Portrait, Oriental, Black & Grey, Polynesian and the always popular, Tattoo of the Day.  Maybe you feel like something a little bit different this weekend!

The Big Design Market

For something that is maybe a little more related to the time of year, you could check out The Big Design Market at the Melbourne Exhibition Buildings in Carlton.  The Big Design Market is the biggest market of its kind in Australia, bringing together the best of independent Australian and international design for 3 huge days of shopping, where you'll find fashion and accessories, homewares and textiles, lifestyle and kids' products, stationery and books.

The Market is full of Australian and International designers, and you're sure to find some unique Christmas gifts.  The market is kid friendly, and when you get hungry you'll be able to pick from gourmet food, sweet treats, coffee, craft beer and cider to replenish.  It's only $2 entry, so if you want some Christmas shopping inspiration, maybe this is the place to be.

Moonlight Cinema

This week the 2014/15 summer season of the Moonlight Cinema kicked off in Melbourne.  The outdoor, evening cinema is held at the Central Lawn in the Botanic Gardens.  You can take a picnic, lay on the grass on a blanket and enjoy a relaxed evening watching a recent movie.  They also have food trucks at each session if you're not that organised.  I think you can even hire a bean bag to sit on.

This weekend you can check out:

But keep an eye on the program for future showings.

Sussan Women's Fun Run

As always, I like to see if there are any interesting runs on around Melbourne, and I'm happy to share the Sussan Women's Fun Run being held on Sunday morning in St Kilda.  Registrations are still open on Saturday if you still want to sign up for the 5km, 10km or half marathon runs.

Each dollar raised in fundraising supports the Breast Cancer Network Australia, which works to ensure that Australians affected by breast cancer receive the very best support, information, treatment and care.  As you may recall, that's a pretty important cause in my life, so if you get a chance, go down and support the runners, even if you don't feel like lacing up yourself.

So a few different things this weekend to check out if you are looking!  I hope you have a great weekend.  Bring it on!

What have you got going on this weekend?  All Christmas related, or are you still mixing it up?
