4 Things About Me

I've seen this train floating around the blog world, and I thought it would be a nice way to share some other things about me.  Today I was officially prompted to give it a go by the post by Veggie Running Momma.  So here are some things about me!

4 things about me ...

Names people call me

  1. Lish  I mean, it's the middle of my first name, so really doesn't need much explanation.  But I have never been called Al.
  2. Doods Again, a shortened version of my maiden name, and so through school and sports I often got called Doods - mostly by boys!
  3. Sha This was my younger sister's name for me when we were little, and it stuck - most of my family and close family friends call me Sha.
  4. Babe What my husband and I call each other - to the point where if we actually call each other by our first name, it sounds super weird!

Jobs that I have had

  1. Sports shoe sales assistant Through Uni I worked at Rebel Sports in the shoe department.  I still find myself tucking in laces whenever I'm in a sports store.
  2. Gym receptionist Again during Uni, I worked at a small independent gym for a few years, and I really enjoyed it!  Although to be honest, it was during a time where I wasn't really into exercising, so I didn't take advantage of the free gym.
  3. Tax Consultant After Uni, my first job was at one of the big four accounting firms as a Tax Consultant.  I really liked the people I worked with, and I liked the theory and intellectual application of what we were doing.  Sadly, for me, juggling multiple clients just made me feel like I could never actually give the quality output I wanted to.
  4. HR Analyst I moved into human resources about eight years ago, and I have enjoyed all my roles.  I like having one client - my company!  My current role is to manage HR systems, produce HR reports and analytics, and deliver the remuneration needs of the business.

Books that I would recommend

  1. What I Talk About When I Talk About Running This book really spoke to me - both as a runner, and as a person.  It just really tapped into why I run, and why I keep running.
  2. Twilight What can I say? I'm a 17 year old romantic at heart.
  3. The Happiness Project This book inspired me to really think about my life and what I want from it to be happy.  It just makes you feel hopeful, that your life can bring you happiness if you seek it.
  4. Sugar Salt Fat This is one of the first books I read that really got me thinking about why we eat what we eat, and how we can take control of our food.

Movies that I've seen several times

  1. Four Weddings and a Funeral  I love Hugh in this film, and it's a great mix of happy and sad.  The poem being read by Matthew at the funeral tugs at my heart strings every time!  I just wish they had cast a different Carrie ...
  2. Pretty Woman It just is.  I even have the soundtrack.
  3. Rocky Although Gareth first introduced me to Rocky, I actually legitimately like these movies myself.  You have to love an underdog!
  4. Aliens This one is probably more influenced by Gareth.  It's one of his go to movies when he wants to watch something comforting.  Yes, boys are strange!  But as a result, I've seen this (and the other Alien movies!) multiple times, and almost know them by heart.  And truth be told, I wouldn't mind kicking a little butt like Ripley can.

Places that I have lived

When Gareth and I picked up our house keys!

  1. Melbourne I was born in Melbourne, and we lived here for the first 5 years of my life.  I remember running through a house with a corridor, and peeling the skin of grapes before eating them.
  2. Gippsland When I was about to start school we moved to Gippsland, which is a lakes district to the east of Melbourne.  That's where I remember having a big backyard, living in a court and playing with lots of kids, and starting to get into tennis.
  3. Ballarat When I was going into Grade 6 we moved to Ballarat.  My parents and sister still live there (although they all moved away and went back over the years) so I think of this as my home town.
  4. Melbourne (again) I moved to Melbourne for Uni after high school, and I've never left!  I've lived all over the city, but now call the west my home, where Gareth and I have built a house, and have a dog to make it all complete :)

Places that I've been

  1. Egypt I went to Egypt with a girlfriend just as we finished Uni.  We were young and naive, but it was an amazing trip.  I'd love to go back with older and maybe wiser eyes to see it all again!  I remember floating down the Nile on a river boat, and visiting the Cairo Museum multiple times.
  2. Las Vegas When Gareth and I had been together for less than a year, his best friend got married in Vegas, and we went there for the wedding.  I loved it SO much more than I thought I would.  There really is something for everyone in Vegas, and I got to meet and hang out with some awesome people too.
  3. Belfast My husband is from a little town not far from Belfast, so it will always have a special place in our hearts.  Northern Ireland is beautiful, and I can't wait until the next time I can go back - maybe over Christmas this time!
  4. Hawaii - Honolulu and Kona Although we've been to Hawaii twice, last time we went to get married in Kona.  It was magical, and the best wedding I could have ever imagined.  It will always have a special place in our hearts, and we will be going back!

Places I would rather be

  1. Hawaii Please see above :)
  2. New York Somewhere I've always wanted to go because it sounds amazing!
  3. Maldon This is a quiet little sleepy town about 2 hours from Melbourne that we go to when we want to totally relax for a weekend.  We take Angus, sleep in, cook at home, and generally just be lazy together.  It's one of my favourite places to be.
  4. French country-side The French country side just sounds so romantic - great food and wine, beautiful scenery ... if it lives up to the hype, I don't think I'd ever want to leave!

Things I don't eat

  1. Mushrooms Rubbery
  2. Bacon Salty
  3. Chicken skin / Fish skin Slimey
  4. Prawns / Scallops / Calamari etc The only seafood I like is fish.  It's a texture thing.  As is apparently the basis my general aversion to certain foods.

Favourite foods

  1. Brussel sprouts Roasted, with a little olive oil, salt and pepper.  Definitely a favourite!
  2. Salmon Perfectly cooked salmon just melts in your mouth.
  3. Ferrero Rochers This chocolate has everything - milk chocolate, wafer, hazelnut, nutella ... all in one amazing mouthful.
  4. Rockmelon My favourite fruit. I can eat a whole rockmelon in one sitting!

Favourite tv shows

  1. Gilmore Girls This is the show that I watch whenever I need comforting.  I love it all.
  2. Entourage Although this is a 'boy' tv show, it makes me laugh whenever I watch it.  Sometimes you don't have to take things too seriously!
  3. Friends I have watched Friends from start to finish and back again.  An episode can still make me laugh, no matter how many times I've watched it.  Is it too predicatable if I say it's kind of like hanging out with old friends?  (Bada boom).
  4. Alias I love a girl who can kick butt, and Alias was one of the first shows I really got into.  But who can look past the Sidney and Vaughan tension??  Sometimes it got a bit crazy, but I loved this series all the same.  It helped that I watched most of it whilst hanging out with a couple of good friends :)  In fact, I might just have to go rewatch it.

Things I'm excited for this year

  1. Spending time with my husband and Angus Ito goes without saying that I want to spend as much time as possible with my favourite person and dog.  And I kinda like saying 'my husband' :)
  2. Taking my blog to a bigger and better place I feel like I'm getting the hang of the routine of blogging, and now I want to make it better.  Stay tuned!
  3. Taking my fitness to a new level I really want to spend time building on my running and weights to see what I can achieve
  4. Spending time with family As I get older, I just want to spend more time with my family.  They are pretty awesome!

Things I always say

  1. That's amazing! This is my version of my Dad's 'Fabulous!'  Just my go to word to express my appreciation and enjoyment :)
  2. For sure I don't know why - just one of those things that I say.
  3. ' ..... ' I tend to pause in the middle of sentences when I'm thinking, and my husband often thinks I've stopped talking.  It must drive him kind of nuts.
  4. G'day Yes, I actually say that.

Why don't you tell me something about you?
