My husband surprised me with a night in a fancy schmancy hotel in Melbourne on Saturday, but, if you are up for more action after your New Year's Eve celebrations, here are some things you might like to check out.
Coburg Drive In
On a warm evening, the Coburg Drive In is a great place to see a new release movie, but without the cramped, dark feeling you get in a cinema. There is a cool diner where you can get classic burgers, fries and milkshakes, as well as normal movie theatre food. You can even sms your order, and have your food delivered to your car. You can take a whole car load of people for $25, which is a bargain these days!
Sunset Sounds Free Outdoor Concerts
On Sunday from 6pm you can get treated to a Sunset Sounds free concert at Victoria Gardens, High Street Prahran. Over the next three weeks there are different artists playing each week - this week you can hear Kylie Auldist and the Glenroy Allstars. Kylie has performed with a variety of funk bands (including Polyester and Mega Bias) and provided studio and live backing vocals for musical legends such as Renee Geyer and Jimmy Barnes. There are food trucks on hand if you get a bit hungry, but otherwise, stretch out on your picnic rug, and take in the smooth summer vibes.
Peninsula Summer Music Festival
If you are down the Peninsula at this time of year, you should check out the Peninsula Summer Music Festival. The Festival runs from 1- 11 January, On Saturday you can check our Meow Meow, where the Peninsula Community Theatre is transformed into an intimate cabaret venue, where guests take their seats at candle-lit tables around the central catwalk to witness Meow Meow drag cabaret kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. Or if you want something a little more chill, you can experience some Twilight Jazz at Montalto Vineyard in Red Hill South. Keep an eye out for other events over the next couple of weeks.
How are you going to kick off the first weekend in 2015? Big plans?
