I'm not crazy into Valentine's Day celebrations, but I like to think of it as another excuse to do something a bit special - even if that bit special thing is something you do pretty often. For us, that is go to the movies. So that's what we did! We enjoyed it.
Here are the ins and outs of our weekend.
For some reason it was definitely a Friday night that required a glass or two of wine. So that's what I did. We had our minds set on sushi for dinner, but I got there a little late to pick up anything decent. So to line my stomach, we had Jamie's Mexican burgers, with all the toppings. Yum!
I was supposed to go for a long run on Saturday morning, but I woke up with a headache, so instead, I slept in. Hubs was up and out early to hit the gym. And, as I found out when I got up, buy me flowers! Awww ...
I enjoyed a nice easy breakfast of eggs on a wholemeal muffin, and a short macchiato. Hit the spot.
Then we headed out for a lunch and afternoon movie Valentine's date. Nothing fancy, but I did try this new to me Nando's Mediterranean Salad, with chicken (of course), feta and olives. It was really yummy!
After a little wander to a health food store to buy an energy gel for my long run, we decided to go and see The Gambler.
Which of course meant frozen yoghurt!
I was actually kind of shocked that there was a family in to see the movie, with two kids under 11. Old enough to understand the bad stuff (swearing, violence), but too young to understand the good messages.
Anyway, the movie was just okay. Mark Wahlberg seemed pretty perfect for the role, but it was still a bit fatalistic. Maybe that's just not how I think about the world and I found it hard to swallow.
We walked out of the cinema to realise the sky had cleared, and it was a beautiful summer's day!
We hit up the supermarket for groceries for dinner. After doing a little washing, I got into preparing pizza! Heart shaped of course :)
His and hers - his with chicken and mushrooms, mine with salami and pineapple.
After dinner I whipped up some easy Donna Hay brownies, which we had with whipped cream.
We were watching The Equaliser, with Denzel Washington. He is cool.
Sunday morning started with my long run that I had postponed. I went to the gym and did 23km on the treadmill. It was slow and steady. With lots of Powerade Zero, an Enduro coffee energy gel and a few snakes. I was pretty wrecked by the end. In a good way.
When I got home I downed a smoothie with oats, protein powder, chia, linseed, figs, blueberries, spinach and milk. It looked yuck, but tasted good! With a muffin (half honey, half vegemite), and coffee.
I got into more washing, and then took a break for sushi. Perfect warm weather lunch!
My arvo has been all about washing and blogging. I will probably get into some cooking - maybe a cous cous salad for the week, and a batch of ice cream.
Hope you had a great weekend! I sure did :)
Did you do something 'a bit special' this weekend? What was it?
